Dara Santhai-Sherman was born in Manila Philippines, and grew up living in various countries in Southeast Asia. She began to pursue art seriously as an adolescent. After High School she attended Reed College as a fine arts major from 1994-96, and transferred to the San Francisco Art Institute in order to get a more concentrated education in the arts. Dara received her Bachelors in the spring of 1999 as a painting major, and still lives in San Francisco.

During her residency in the Bay Area Dara has exhibited her art regularly in California galleries including the Shooting Gallery, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and 21 Grand. She is currently artist in residence at the Balazo/Mission Badlands Gallery space.

A published artist since adolescence, Dara's work has appeared in magazines, as album art, and on rock flyers throughout the city.

Also an ardent music enthusiast, Dara plays guitar (her other true love!), and fronted the heavy metal rock band Ravana, as lead guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter. Currently she is working on more songs and material.
